Jubilee
Tour to Capetown 2010
In
light of the current recession we find ourselves in, the commitee have
come to the view that the planned tour to Australia to celebrate the
50th Anniversary of the Jack Frost XI, was a bridge too far.
Instead the plan is to tour to Cape Town, South Africa in March 2011 as
part of our Jubilee celebrations.
The
tour is currently in the planning stage with our committee travel
expert, Tim Martin, who is exploring the best options.
A tour of 7-10 days incorporating probably three matches, golf and wine
tasting is being planned. This tour would be obviously much less
expensive and less time consuming than a trip down under. Details
will be sent to members in Early 2010. Please register your
interest in touring, with our treasurer Dom Bryan by emailing him
through:

the very best cricket speakers around today".

a successful venue debut last year, the Dinner will be again held at
the Vistory Services Club, Seymour Street, London, W2. Just a 5
minute walk from Marble Arch tube, the club offers us our own function

Autumn
Golf Meeting 2009
On
26th October the Autumn Golf Meeting was held at Woking Golf
Club. Another good turnout saw 24 Frosters and friends playing on
a beautiful Autumn day on an excellent course with fast greens.
In
order to slow down the swings a hearty breakfast preceeded the tee
times. Following play a good lunch was consumed before the Lipop
trophy was presented. It was retained by the Klimcke family; this
time the winner was the golf secretary Andy Klimcke with 33 points with
the Chairman in the runners up slot with 32. Thanks were
expressed by the Chairman to Andy for organising another excellent golf
day.
Welcome
In
the 2009 season we welcomed two new qualifiers. Congratulations
and a big welcome to Bud Abeysekera a prolific batsman and useful
bowler and Harvey Jackson - an accomplished all-rounder. Both
players demonstrated their skills on several occasions during the
season.
A
successful season
For
the first time in three years the XI recorded more wins than losses
with a ratio of 9 to 6 with only 3 draws. However 10 matches had
to be cancelled mainly due to the weather.

Winter 2004

with six games cancelled. further details of the results can be

Preparation for the new season
|

Neil Baker - a classy batsman who keeps wicket and is a useful
occasional bowler,
Colin Holden - a wily medium pacer,
Khawar (Harve) Saleem - a stylish run machine,
Matthew Sully - an excellent batsman and useful bowler (he also plays
off a plus handicap!),
Alexander Milton - a most promising cricketer and part of our youth
policy (which also includes Dad, Ian!).

at Fulwell G.C. The winner was Tim Klimcke who scored 36 points
off a handicap of 10 whilst organiser Andy Klimcke won the prize for
the longest drive out-distancing his father, Simon. If you are
interested in playing in the Spring meeting please advise Andy Klimcke
by phone or email.

The Annual Dinner and AGM
The 2005 Dinner
will take place at The Cricketer's Club of London on Friday 4
February. 6.00pm for the AGM and 7.00 for 7.45pm for the
Dinner. Yet another extra special evening is in prospect.
Geoff Miller, the ex Derbyshire and England all rounder and a current
England selector, will be the guest speaker at the Frost Dinner.
Chairman David Lipop said he was delighted to have such a 'big name'
especially as Geoff is currently regarded as one of the best speakers
on the cricket dinner circuit.
Congratulations
John Hall married the
lovely Catherine on 6 November 2004 - every happiness to them both from
all Frosters. Congratulations are also due to Committee Member
Graham Fowler on his recent Engagement.

The President
Tony Gill our President
and Founder, send greetings to all Frosters. He has recently
moved into a beautiful new apartment in Hastings with a wonderful sea
view. It is also fully equipped and wardened to ensure most
creature comforts for a person in a wheelchair. The new abode
means that Tony is now able to get out and about. To celebrate
this, Chairman David Lipop and Committee Member Chris Horner recently
visited Hastings and took him out to lunch in a country hostelry.
Tony's attendance at the forthcoming dinner is sadly not
possible. He keeps in touch with the activities of the XI by
phone, email, this
website and by the occasional visits of members.

The AGM
The AGM took place
prior to the
Dinner. Reports from the officers detailed another successful
year both on and off the field. However the Treasurer reported
that subscriptions were down on previous years due to the closing of
the old Lloyd's bank account. those members who have not already
transferred to the new Nat West account will be receiving a new mandate
form very shortly. The election of officers saw the committee
returned en bloc.

The Annual Dinner
The 2004 Dinner
took place on 6 February at the Cricketers Club of London.
fifty five members and guests attended and enjoyed a splendid
evening.
Kim Morell delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the absent
President Tony Gill. We were delighted to welcome the England
bowling
legend Derek Underwood as our guest speaker. Derek enthralled and
amused attendees with a fascinating insight into the world of
Professional and International cricket. The toast to the guests
was skilfully proposed by Ian Milton. The Chairman presented the
Player of the Year award to Graham Fowler for his high run and average
figures with Andy Klimcke receiving the runners up award. The
Gnome of the Year for 2003 was awarded to a highly surprised and
delighted Lance Keene, that's until he downed the traffic light!
Yet another great evening was enjoyed by all, especially the guest
speaker who was fascinated to hear about the happenings, past and
present, of the XI.

The President
Tony's confinement to a
wheelchair continues to frustrate and he has recently undergone a small
operation. However his spirits are good and he hopes to attend a
fixture this season. Tony sends his best wishes to all Frosters
for the forthcoming season.

The AGM
The AGM took place
prior to the
Dinner. In the absence of the President, the Chairman directed
proceedings. Most of the current officers were re-elected with
two notable exceptions. The resignations of the Treasurer Peter
Murray and Committee member Charles O'Reilly were lamented and thanks
were expressed to both for their long, hard working service. We
welcome Dominic Bryan as our new Treasurer and Andrew Klimcke onto the
Committee.

The
Annual Dinner
The 2003 Dinner
took place on 7 February at the Cricketers Club of London.
Fifty members and guests attended and enjoyed yet another splendid
evening. Sadly for the first time the President was unable to
attend due to his recent stroke. However, in Tony's absence some
fine speeches were made. We were delighted to welcome as our
guest speaker Andrew Wingfield-Digby who was chaplain to the England
cricket team, a fine cricketer for Oxford University and Dorset and
founder of the charity Christians in Sport. Andrew delivered a
splendidly amusing speech including many stories of his cricketing
experiences. The toast to the guests was proposed by Robin
Cheeseman who delivered an excellent speech, surprising a few, but not
those who had heard his bar rantings.
The Chairman presented recipients of his awards for the 2002 season
with splendid Jack Frost acrylic trophies suitably engraved. The
recipients were: Batsman: Mike Chase, Bowler: Chris Crowhurst, all
Rounder: Alastair Crowhurst, Match Manager (joint): Nigel fowler and
Dominic Bryan.

The
President
The excellent news is
that Tony's
recovery continues apace. He is now armed with an electric
wheelchair and has been given the all clear to return home very soon.

Globe
Once again the Jack
Frost XI
traveled
the world to play. The 2002 season saw the XI playing in three
continents.
April saw us in Asia for the Chiang Mai International sixes competition
in Northern Thailand followed by a trip to Europe to play at Des Ormes,
France in May. In November we visited the Americas to take part
in
the International sixes tournament in Sarasota, Florida. A report on
the
Chiang Mai tour can be found on the tour reports page, the results for

Society
The Autumn meeting took
place at
Chiddingfold G.C. on 25th October. A good turnout was spoiled by
four very late cancellations – hope you all feel guilty! However,
it was still a good day. Ian Milton cleaned up with 45 points -
he
also produced the longest drive and was nearest the pin – but
then
he only plays off a handicap of 7 – but not next time! Grateful
thanks
to Nigel “Foxy” Fowler for all the
organisation. The next meeting will be held at Pine Ridge G.C. on
Friday 21st March 2003.
Please endeavour to come along-
it’s a great day.

Another
Good Season
Chairman David Lipop
said that
the
2002 was successful in that the XI on won 10 matches, lost 4 and drew 3
matches. This was virtually identical to the 2001 Season.
However,
sadly in 2002 we had 9 games cancelled – 5 due to the weather and 4
because
the opposition were unable to raise a side.

Thomas
Booth O.B.E.
Sadly, Tommy Booth, one
of the
original Frosters who played in the first match in 1961 died in
November
2002. Dying in his 80s, Tommy regularly attended the Annual
Dinner,
until recent years. A hard hitting left handed bat, for a long time he
kept wicket for the now defunct Leveret C.C. He was awarded his
Order
of the British Empire for his services to N.A.A.F.I with whom he served
from World War II until his retirement as a senior director. He
extended
his interest in prints and maps to commence dealing from premises in
Claygate,
Surrey. Much of his service was in the Far East where he earned
the
nickname “Booth Twan”. Very proud of his Yorkshire origin Tommy
Booth
was an honourable man and a loyal member of the Jack Frost XI who will
be sadly missed. Wife Joan and daughter Patty survive him.
